Until recently, I supported the application of large-scale research funds. Then, without a break, the funding agency contacted me to prepare presentation materials for the interview at the review board. It came right after the researcher preparing the documents with me proposed that we should take a break and go to a pub.
As we see in this story, even if it looks discontinuous in a short time window, various things are continuous as long as you live. I can’t prove that my career as a researcher influenced my competency in my current job. But as long as I stay alive, the next “ME” is influenced by the previous “ME.” That would be called an experience.
Even if it is an unpleasant experience, such an experience will be mathematically added to the previous “ME” to form the next “ME.”
